What we had was a standardization gap. We had no shared tool and no shared way of working. Closing that gap, without killing the enthusiasm that got us there, has created real organizational value.
The problem
By April, 81% of our people were already using AI and were comfortable with using it day to day. However, only 44% of departments had agreed on a shared set of tools, and ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini and GitHub Copilot were all in use across the same teams.
When we asked what worried people, the answers were data security, whether they could rely on the output, and a lack of clear guidance. What we had was a standardization problem, and it’s one we see in many of the businesses we work with. So our consulting team ran the same team readiness engagement we’d run for a client, on our own business.
What we did
We started with the rules. We sharpened Enate’s AI policy with specific guidance on data, and put it on the weekly all-hands agenda so it stayed front of mind. Then we rolled out Claude company-wide as one enterprise-grade tool, without switching off any of the others.
Next, we made it a team effort. Every team across the UK and India got an AI Champion, who ran training and shared what worked. We folded AI into the 10% of time already set aside for learning. And we treated it as a loop, so survey results and Champion feedback shaped the training and guidance that came next.
At the UK summer party, we conducted an AI Hackathon. The AI Champions picked 6 real problems, and 6 mixed teams had one morning to solve them. By early afternoon, each team had pitched a working prototype or design to the leadership team, with 5 minutes to make the case and 5 for questions. Two ideas went live within a week, and the hackathon is now an annual fixture.
The impact for Enate
Three months after Claude went live, 86 of our 95 people were using it every week. The experience rating rose from 3.94 to 4.33 out of 5, and 88% rated it four or five.
79% said it made existing tasks easier. And concern about having to double-check AI output, the top worry at the start, fell to just 5%. It’s the same generative AI consulting approach we now bring to clients, tested on ourselves first.
What our people say
“The Claude training lessons have significantly improved my ability to use Claude effectively in my daily work, helping me execute tasks more efficiently, solve problems faster, and get the right support when needed.”
